Cheltenham property pair promoted to partner
THE LEADING regional professional services business, Knights, has promoted two senior associates to partner at its Cheltenham office.
Tracy Gibson and Ben Thomas, who have more than 22 years’ combined experience in commercial property law, bring the total number of partners at the South West office to eight.
Joining the team as a solicitor in 2009, Ben was the first hire at the newly formed Cheltenham office. Ben said: “I’ve been won over by Knights’ way of working, the way we train staff and manage our clients creates a really happy working atmosphere, so it’s a great place to be partner.”
Responsible for local, national and international clients ranging from small independent landlords to large businesses such as Paddy Power, both Tracy and Ben are experts in asset management, retail, leasing, acquisitions and contracts. In their new roles as partner, they’ll also be instrumental in the training of junior team members.
Tracy said: “It’s fantastic that Knights actively promotes from within the business and invests in staff. Unlike a traditional law firm Knights does not require it’s partners to invest equity in the business, instead we’re promoted for hard work and in recognition of experience, which is really refreshing.
“I first joined Knights in 2012 as an associate - since then the business has flourished and despite rapid growth it’s retained its original culture and ethos.”
Knights is the UK’s fastest-growing regional professional services business and has recently secured a multi-million pound investment from Permira Debt Managers (PDM). Knights has recruited 250 professionals in 2016 and is rapidly expanding its offering of non-legal professional services, including corporate finance.
Mark Anton-Smith, Cheltenham office leader said: “Promoting from within the business is key for Knights, and we invest heavily in growing talent. In addition to Ben and Tracy’s promotions we’ve also appointed a new associate, bringing our team to 22 lawyers.”
Knights’ unique business model, providing high-quality services from regional centres, has allowed it to grow rapidly to 500 staff operating from six regional offices in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Chester, Cheltenham, Derby, Hale and Oxford.
