Leeds envelope business inks new deal with Lloyds Bank

A Leeds-based envelope manufacturer and solutions provider has increased its production capacity after investing in a new printing press with support from Lloyds Bank.

The Great Northern Envelope Company (GNE) has invested in a new Komori printing press after securing a commercial loan from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

The Komori printing press has further improved GNE’s print quality, increased the firm’s print capacity and has helped shorten lead times for customers.

The printing press has also enabled GNE to reduce consumables, paper waste and energy use.

With a turnover of £18m, GNE produces direct mail materials for household brand names, as well as transactional mail materials for banks and utility companies.

The company switched its banking arrangements to Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking in June this year, bringing its banking and invoice discounting facilities, previously handled by two different banks, under one roof.

Warren Shermer, managing director at Great Northern Envelope Company, said: “The new press will allow us to offer industry-leading quality of print, and help us continue to be a key player in the expanding direct mail market.

“Moving our banking arrangements to Lloyds Bank allowed us to be more efficient with our finances, from which we are in a better position to grow as a business, and expand our production capabilities.”

Steve Dale, relationship director at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, added: “With new production assets and streamlined finances, GNE is in a strong position moving forward.

“Its invoice discounting facility helps the business manage its working capital, helping speed up the firm’s future investment and growth.

“Lloyds Bank is committed to supporting small businesses investing in assets that will drive growth, which is why we have pledged to increase our net lending to SMEs by £1billion every year until 2017.”
