City Tavern scores nomination hat trick
A multi award-winning city centre bar may have to make room on its mantelpiece after being nominated for three prestigious industry awards.
City Tavern at Northumberland Road, Newcastle has been shortlisted for the Best Team Trainer, Best Cask Ale Pub and the Best Retailer award – which it won in 2014 - at the national finals of the Star Pubs & Bars awards organised by Heineken.
The ceremony, which will be held in Liverpool on November 17, will see the city centre bar go head to head with major competitors across the UK in hopes of scooping a title - or three - on the night.
And City Tavern owner, David King said he is delighted at the news:
“This is more brilliant news for all of our hard-working team at City Tavern.
“To be shortlisted for three top categories in a national final is an achievement in itself; but to win, would be the cherry on top of a fantastic year.”
“Having previously enjoyed victory at these awards, winning Retailer of the Year in 2014 and Pub With The Best Pint in 2015, we’re hopeful this year’s ceremony will be another success.”
The pub, which was established in 1923, is no stranger to award wins, having recently scooped the accolade for Best Pub at the Made in Tyne and Wear Lifestyle Awards in October.
City Tavern, widely recognised for its Tudor style façade, was taken over by Mr King early in 2014 and then enjoyed a £450k refurbishment to create a state-of-the-art bar, while still retaining the venue’s historic features.
