Bolton-based furniture firm Gresham eyes record £30m turnover
Workplace furniture company Gresham is on track for a record eight-figure turnover as it prepares to celebrate its 40th year in business.
The Bolton-based firm is set to achieve a turnover of £30m by the end of the financial year, up 8% against 2015/16.
Founded in 1976 in a garden shed, Gresham has attributed the growth spurt to a business development strategy that included a re-brand, expansion into additional markets and the launch of new products.
Today, the company employs a team of 300 and operates a 180,000 sq ft manufacturing facility and headquarters in Horwich, with an office in London’s design district of Clerkenwell.
As part of its birthday celebrations, Gresham this year introduced the Gresham Design Collection, a new range developed collaboratively with other UK product designers.
The company has also worked to develop relationships in new markets and strengthen Gresham Bespoke, its service line allowing customers to procure one-off pieces made to specific requirements.
Elsewhere, Gresham invested £1.4m in its production plant to enhance quality and processes, and in the acquisition of additional land at Platinum Park for expansion over the next few years.
Gresham Office Furniture MD Julian Roebuck said: “Gresham was launched by my father-in-law 40 years ago with a concept design for a new desk.
“Since then the business has grown steadily making a name for itself in the contracts furniture market and now manufactures over 9,000 desks, workplace chairs, tables, screens and storage solutions per week.”
He continued: “However, in reaching this latest milestone we felt it was time to make some exciting changes to help drive the business forward. The introduction of new branding and the Gresham Design Collection, we hope will be a more attractive proposition for the architect and interior design community, a market that we have previously had limited success in.
“We are incredibly proud of our Northern roots and this is cemented by the continued investment in our Bolton HQ.”
