Found yourself managing a new department store?

Congratulations! So you’ve landed the post of becoming the store manager and managing at least 5 floors of different departments! When you finally come down from the giddiness of being able to do all that, one of the first things that overwhelm you is the cleaning department. So many different departments such as cosmetics and food that require their own separate waste disposal not to mention any junk removal that would be present when it comes down to installing a new unit in the kitchen and keeping all the cosmetic counters pristine and clean. So how do you actually manage all this? Simple. You negotiate a contract with a commercial cleaning company that sends in cleaners to be able to service different departments. It isn’t always easy to keep track of all of them; however with a good contract in place as well as really good understanding of what the cleaners themselves should be doing, you’re onto a winner!

So what should you be looking for in a clearance company? You can name things like punctuality and expertise and that would be fine but one of the main indicators is things like reliability. Sure the staff can be as trained as they come, however if they are always late in the morning and shabby in their work, then really there isn’t any point of hiring them. Below, we have compiled a list of tips to be able to help you with your selection:

- Because budget is not an issue, you’re looking for a commercial cleaning company that has a track record of providing staff to department stores. Departments stores are really, really hard to clean; what with all the harsh, bright lights as well as expansive spaces, so it is really important to be able to have that reliability of the staff knowing what exactly they are doing.

- Finding a company that is able to provide bulk cleaning waste disposal services. There are usually so many things that need cleaning out, that security will often have the keys to be able to do so. You may even need to have skips hired out regularly when it comes down to getting rid of occupational waste or rubbish removals services. When a company is able to provide simultaneous services, it makes life much easier because if you need any sort of clearance service, they are there at a moment’s notice to be able to help you!

- The company should also be able to provide specially trained staff that can take care of building waste services. Often in a department store, there are always renovations, with an escalator stopping to work to a new floor being replaced, so it is good to have a company that can provide that at a moment’s notice. A department store is usually a very busy place and things are always being worn out due to wear and tear as well as things being broken and this is something that you need to be able to get people in to take care of it, asap.

- Waste removals are something that is natural when you’re looking after the well-being of a department store. The reason is because things pile up very quickly, with the amount of people that work in it, so your clearance company should be able to provide this as an option.
