Carole Nash CEO David Newman

North West festive focus: David Newman, Carole Nash

As the North West’s business leaders tie the bow on a frenetic year and prepare for a hard-earned festive break, Bdaily North West has asked movers and shakers in the region to give their verdict on 2016 and tell us their hopes and fears for the new year ahead.

Up today is David Newman, CEO of motorbike insurance broker Carole Nash, who gives us his views on the last 12 months and reveals what goodies he’s hoping to find under his tree.

What are you most proud of achieving in 2016?

Engineering the deal to buy an established motorcycle insurance competitor in Express Insurance has to be right up there.

Which was your busiest month, and why?

May was very busy for Carole Nash, as that is when most motorcyclists are getting out on the open road. As such, the level of demand for insurance cover goes through the roof.

What are your thoughts on Brexit so far?

One thing for certain is that it is going to be a very long road there! However, clear transitional arrangements are essential.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

I love the direct interaction with our motorbike and classic car enthusiast customers, therefore I am very much looking forward to the many great shows and events Carole Nash will be taking part in next year.

What will be your biggest obstacle next year?

As is the case with every business, there is always a part of unknown, factors that are hard to predict. However, we have a very solid business here and I am definitely confident in our ability to keep performing above and beyond expectations

What’s the outlook like for your sector over the next 12 months?

Challenging as ever and very competitive! But we are ready!

Tell me about your staff Christmas night-out

We went to a great fish restaurant called Mollard in Paris. I did not (or should I say, I could not) call it a day too late, though, as there was a board meeting first thing the following morning!

What’s the best date in December to put decorations up? How early is too early?

The first day of December is when I do it. Christmas cheer gives everyone a lift, both at the office and at home.

What are you hoping to get from Father Christmas? What’s your Tracy Island/Buzz Lightyear this year?

A keen explorer and great fan of the outdoors myself, I would be delighted with a book on the Trans Siberian Express. Especially as I have agreed to go with some friends but do not yet know what it entails.
