British transport experts to speak at global event

Val Shawcross, Deputy Mayor of London for Transport and Deputy Chair of Transport for London and Claire Kilmartin, CEO of Trainline will be among the high profile speakers sharing their insights alongside experts from all around the world and the UK at Transport Ticketing Global at Old Billingsgate London on 24-25 January.

Directors and senior executives from many leading UK public transport authorities including Transport for London, Heathrow Express, Transport for West Midlands, Stagecoach, Great Western Railway, Go Ahead, Transport for Scotland, Govia Thameslink and Transport for the North will be making major contributions to this world class event.

Transport ticketing in the UK is very much in focus at present following the Government’s pledge in the recent Autumn Statement to allocate £80 million to accelerate the rollout of smart ticketing.

The ninth annual major conference of the public transport community worldwide will bring together more than 800 delegates to discuss the latest innovations and the future of this rapidly development sector, from mobile app ticketing and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) to Smart Cities, a major new stream.

Establishing the high level of the speakers and the debate, Val Shawcross will give the opening address of the comprehensive conference while Claire Kilmartin will deliver the closing presentation.

The conference programme covers major issues across public transport policy; Matthew Hudson of Transport for London contributes to the Global City panel discussion on what the connected global vision for public transport.

It will also cover in each transport sector. For instance, after the 5 major public transport groups promised to bring contactless to all buses across the UK by 2022, Robert Montgomery of Stagecoach UK Bus will discuss progress one year into the project. He will also contribute to a panel discussion suggesting that ticketing initiatives should be driven at a national level along with Chris Perry of Transport for West Midlands. Justin Stenner of Heathrow Express and Kevin Ayton of Great Western Railway will be exploring the realities of starting and delivering smart ticketing projects.

Among the case studies, Mike Lewis of Transport for the North will update on Smart North and Bill Reeve of Transport for Scotland will talk about future-proofing the national Scottish ticketing system.

In addition to this comprehensive event, a wide-ranging exhibition will offer the opportunity for delegates to interact with the latest technologies first-hand and meet with over 70 potential and existing suppliers.

Launching this year, the Smart Transport Dragons Den will give the opportunity for four up-and-coming start-ups to pitch their game changing technology live to experts and investors.
