Teesside High named as Stockton’s best performing school
Teesside High School has been named the best school in Stockton-on-Tees for attainment at GCSE.
The government’s 2016 School performance league tables issued on Thursday 19 January show Teesside High School to be the top performing of all independent and maintained schools at GCSE in the Stockton local authority.
The school scored highest on Attainment 8, which calculates how students perform in 8 key GCSE subjects, as well as achievement in GCSE English and Maths and the percentage of students achieving the English Baccalaureate qualification.
The English Baccalaureate is a highly regarded performance measure which is only awarded when students secure GCSEs in five core subjects; English, Maths, Science, a language and History or Geography.
Andrew Wilson, Head at Teesside High School, said: “We are delighted our students’ dedication to achieving outstanding results, whatever their ability, has been recognised in the government’s 2016 school performance tables.
“This achievement is testament to our wonderful team of teachers who consistently go above and beyond to provide the inspirational education so highly valued by parents and pupils at THS.
“That said, no school should be judged solely by league tables and we remain extremely proud of the work we do to develop the whole child; outstanding pastoral care and an exceptional array of co-curricular activities are just as integral to our success.”
Find out more about Teesside High School at the School’s upcoming Open Day on Saturday 28 January, 9.30am-12.30pm.
