New Book Published by Harrogate Career Coach
Harrogate-based career coach, Jane Barrett, is celebrating as her book ‘Taking Charge of Your Career: The Essential Guide to Finding the Job That’s Right for You’ has just been published by leading independent publishing house Bloomsbury.
Jane is no stranger to career change herself, having trained as a chartered surveyor before moving into recruitment and then retraining as a career coach. She has over 15 years’ experience as a speaker, workshop leader and coach at business schools in the UK and across Europe. Jane established online career development company The Career Farm in Harrogate in 2012 to give individuals the structure, tools and inspiration to grow their careers in a proactive way.
The book, which Jane co-authored with executive coach Camilla Arnold, looks at the challenges faced by people in today’s turbulent job market, offering practical advice, self-assessment tools and illustrative case studies. Using a series of exercises tried and tested with hundreds of coaching clients over the years it aims to lead career-changers step-by-step through the process of building their career strategy and making it happen.
Jane Barrett said: “On a personal level, I know how feeling stuck in the wrong career can impact every aspect of your life and how daunting changing career can seem. But I also know the vast benefits of being in a job you love can bring; whether working for others or setting up your own business. I wanted to share what I’ve learnt both through my own career journey and through those I’ve coached with as many people as possible.
“Camilla and I had seen useful information in various books about careers but never in one place so decided to put everything we knew as recruiters and coaches together, along with a variety of real-life case studies; which would help anyone at a crossroads in their career, whether just starting out or looking for a change.”
‘Taking Charge of Your Career: The Essential Guide to Finding the Job That’s Right for You’ has received praise from numerous careers professionals including leading universities and blue-chip companies.
Commenting on the book, Stuart Jagot, director of career development at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford said: “A thorough, structured and pragmatic overview to career management that covers both the practical aspects of changing careers in our volatile, uncertain world, with the often harder, personal underlying challenges many people have to face and overcome to move forward.”
Blair Beavis, early talent manager at Johnson & Johnson said: “The beauty of this book is that whatever stage you are at in your career, I believe the sound advice and case studies (based on extensive coaching and professional experience) are something that everyone can benefit from. The structured framework covers every aspect from the initial “where do I start?” to actually getting on the right path and all the relevant steps in between.”
‘Taking Charge of Your Career: The Essential Guide to Finding the Job That’s Right for You’ is available from both Amazon and Bloomsbury Publishing.
