Higgs helps garden centre grow business

Advisers from a Midlands law firm have helped Hillview Garden Centres, a flourishing garden centre group, continue to expand with the acquisition of an 11th business.

Jamie Partington, Associate in the Corporate team at Higgs & Sons, and Richard Saxton, Partner in the Commercial Property team, worked closely with Hillview to deliver multiple acquisitions, with the purchase of Shipley Garden Centre at Heanor, Derbyshire the latest to complete.

Hillview Garden Centres Ltd operates across middle England at Billing, Burford House, Charlecote, Hilltop, Little Heath, Newton Regis, Pavilion, Scotland Nurseries, Shipley, Studley and Studley Green. The Group started in September 2011 with the purchase of Studley Garden Centre near Redditch and now employs over 400 people.

Shipley Garden Centre, to be known as Shipley Garden Store & Aquatics, was successfully run by Colin Beale and family for nearly 30 years.

“It’s a great centre and fits well with our existing stores,” said Boyd J Douglas-Davies, Hillview Garden Centre’s CEO. “Colin, his family and team have created a thriving business which is undoubtedly the locals favourite garden centre. I’m looking forward to working with the team to help the centre develop further and benefit from the advantages of being part of a group, and, as always, Jamie and Richard at Higgs have provided first-class support throughout the purchase process.”

Jamie Partington said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Hillview Garden Centres and continues its dynamic growth path through selective acquisitions.

“We are delighted to continue to support Hillview in the successful execution of its long term strategy.”

Higgs & Sons, based at offices on the Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill, boasts more than 100 specialist lawyers.
