Kromek wins $3.1m U.S homeland security contract
Radiation detection technology company Kromek has won a five-year contract, valued at $3.1m, by an existing US-based customer in the homeland security marketplace.
The Durham-based business, which focuses on the medical, security and nuclear markets, said it was ‘delighted’ to land its first long-term contract in the security screening market.
Kromek has developed key components to be incorporated into the customers’ new generation security screening system, used for the detection of explosives.
The equipment has regulatory certification and provides advanced capability for screening current threats, and is ideal for the detection of homemade explosives.
Dr Arnab Basu, Chief Executive Officer of Kromek, said: “We are delighted to announce our first long-term contract in the market.
“It is also significant because this is another OEM customer that has moved from being an R&D customer to one who is entering a commercial phase.
“This contract win adds to the visibility of revenues underpinning our belief in the continuing growth of the business and commercial traction resulting from the increasing adoption of our technology.”
