This week’s Yorkshire appointments

Kate Maybury, senior associate at Raworths, has been appointed the new President of the Harrogate and District Law Society.

During the 12-month period, Kate, a specialist in Trusts Wills and Estates, will be the representative for the district’s legal profession, overseeing items such as training and education as well as communicating on members’ behalf’s.

Kate said: “I am delighted to accept this prestigious position and look forward to supporting the profession in the Harrogate District over the coming year.”

The Harrogate and District Law Society has existed for nearly 100 years and the Harrogate District currently has over 350 solicitors, a figure which continues to grow in line with the area’s legal presence.

Kate continued: “This district’s legal fraternity continues to thrive and accommodates high calibre firms and individuals who enjoy a significant regional and national presence.”

Kate has worked at Raworths since 2011, she is a Member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and founder and former chair of Probate Group at Sheffield Law Society.

Matt Brear and Fiona Bellamy, Dacres Commercial

Fiona Bellamy has been promoted to senior associate and Matt Brear has been promoted to senior surveyor at Dacres Commercial.

Fiona joined the property firm 10 years ago and Matt joined 6 years ago. Both are based at its Leeds city centre office.

Fiona is a commercial valuation and landlord and tenant chartered surveyor with over 20 years’ experience in the commercial property sector. She is part of the firm’s Healthcare Division, undertaking rent reviews and valuations on medical centres and pharmacy premises for commercial landlord clients, and other professional work for public and private sector clients.

Matt qualified as a chartered surveyor in 2015 and is responsible for the Commercial Agency operation in Leeds and Ilkley. He is responsible for the sale and letting of a range of commercial property, including retail, offices, industrial accommodation. He also provides advice on acquisitions of commercial property, investment sales and residential land disposals.

Hugh Thompson, Lupton Fawcett

Lupton Fawcett, the Leeds, Sheffield and York-based commercial law firm, has appointed Hugh Thompson as a director into its Private Client department.

Hugh advises clients on all aspects of private client work including inheritance tax planning, lasting powers of attorney, Wills and succession planning and administration of estates.

Hugh has particular expertise in advising overseas (particularly those from New Zealand and Australia) based executors, beneficiaries, lawyers and trust companies on all aspects of probate, re-seal of overseas probate, wills and estate administration involving cross-border issues between the UK and overseas jurisdictions.

In addition, Hugh advises new migrants moving abroad from the UK (particularly to New Zealand) on the possible UK taxation consequences that can arise.

Katy Booth, cbaSadofskys

cbaSadofskys, the Yorkshire accountancy firm, has appointed Katy Booth as its new head of corporate finance.

Katy joins cbaSadofskys from a large independent York-based practice, where she has been a corporate finance associate since 2010.

In addition to this role, she acted as lead advisor on a large client portfolio of businesses, including UK SMEs, small groups of companies, LLPs and partnerships.

Katy has vast experience in corporate finance and has specialised in business valuations, mergers and acquisitions and business sales and restructures.

In the last twelve months, she has undertaken three due diligences for transactions valued between £1m and £5m, and has guided on two further business sales, raising capital of over £2m.

Adam Simpson, Mazars

Mazars, the international accountancy firm, has announced the appointment of Adam Simpson as partner.

Adam has worked for Mazars for five years and is based in the firm’s Leeds office. His role as partner is a promotion and he will also continue his position as director of Mazars Receivables Management covering the UK.

Adam is responsible for a team that is located in Leeds, Birmingham and Edinburgh. He travels across the UK but is mainly based in the Mazars Leeds office on Gelderd Road.

The Mazars Receivables Management team works alongside their clients to implement a range of outsourcing services such as account management payroll and reporting, credit management and debt collection.

Joanne, Wilkinson, 360 Chartered Accountants

360 Chartered Accountants has announced the appointment of a new senior personal tax advisor.

Joanne Wilkinson has 20 years’ experience in personal tax having worked for one of the world’s largest international practices as well as a number of large regional accountancy firms.

She will be focusing on completing, reviewing and filing tax returns as well as being available to offer tax advice to clients.
