Inspiring Apprentice Secures Role With Wolf Group
Talented teenage coder, Charlotte McAlpine joins Wolf Group’s development team after completing her Software Development apprenticeship. The 17 year old from South Tyneside, joined training initiative Wolf Academy last February in the hope of pursuing a career in IT.
The Academy is part of bespoke Software Development Company Wolf Group based in North Shields, providing tailored solutions across a number of sectors. Established in 2013, the programme was launched with the aim of encouraging more people to pursue a career in the sector whilst creating a talent pool of developers, something which there is huge demand for in the North East.
Last year, Charlotte, along with other female academy members and Wolf Group employees, launched a blog series which was featured on the Wolf Group website and also made regional press. The posts, written by Academy members alongside Wolf Group’s Marketing Assistant, focused on the opportunities there are for women in the industry and demonstrated some examples of success stories we’ve witnessed.
Charlotte said: “Making the decision to join Wolf Group as an apprentice wasn’t difficult for me. I knew I wanted a career in IT and the company could offer me everything I needed to get there.”
“After completing my training and exams, I was involved in live client projects working with senior developers. Real world experience and expert knowledge has been crucial in getting me where I am now, ready to begin my role as a junior developer.”
It’s been a successful year for the Academy and for Wolf Group gaining some great new additions to the team. With our new cohort progressing well and again showing real potential, it’s hoped that 2017 will see further growth for the team with home grown talent.
Wolf Group’s CEO Allan Jeff, said: ““The tech industry is among the fastest growing in the North East and thanks to apprenticeships we boast some of the best IT talent in the UK.”
“We’re fortunate to be in the position where we can offer rewarding careers in software and hope that by encouraging a greater diversity of young developers into the industry we can further cement the region as a key player in the UK’s digital economy.”
