Newcastle security startup Athena Risk heads Stateside

Newcastle-based security startup Athena Risk is going Stateside with the opening of a new office in Tampa, Florida.

Believing it can provide more comprehensive security management services than already available in the country, the business has been buoyed by interest from Tampa-based universities for its security risk management solutions.

Athena Risk’s smartphone app, the Travel Guardian, is at the forefront of the business’ global risk management software. The app can co-ordinate a risk assessment of every country in the world as well as provide tips to users.

Other features include advice on a range of issues including currency rates, access for corporate travellers and even simple travel advice such as which plug adapters are required in different countries.

The business, which specialises in providing security risk management packages for clients aiming to operate business in other countries, was established by former servicemen Jason Hicks and David Tait just over a year ago.

David Tait, Director at Athena Risk, said: “Security has an instrumental part to play in the success of any business, and that ideology, in addition to the services that we specifically offer, transcend well in the United States.

“Companies are more concerned than ever about the movement of staff, environmental impact and keeping confidential information safe at all times and we can work with them to help them make carefully calculated decisions.”

Paul Livingstone, Business Development Manager at NOF Energy, added: “It’s great to see that supply chain companies can turn to a high-quality security company like Athena Risk, when seeking out potential global platforms.”
