Free Seminar For Self-Builders
LEEDS West Indian Centre is hosting a free seminar between 6pm and 8pm Thursday 23rd March, with Leeds College of Building, that is specifically designed for anyone considering building their own home.
The two hour long session will cover a wide range of topics from selecting the right site and the planning process, through to site coordination and budgeting. Attendees will hear from leading self-build consultant Claude Hendrickson, John Gillespie from the Community Self Build Agency, Jonathan Lindh from Leeds Environmental Design Associates and Steve Hoey from Canopy Housing Project, which advises on transforming empty houses into homes.
Ian Billyard, Principal at Leeds College of Building, which is the UK’s only specialist further education construction college, says: “Lots of people dream of creating their own ‘Grand Design’ and building their own home, or even carrying out major extension or refurbishment works to their own property. It can be a daunting process, often people simply don’t know where to start. This session will help both first-time self-builders, as well as those more experienced people who maybe have some more specific questions regarding an existing project.
“This seminar will offer an insight into what it takes and provide the opportunity to question experts about what’s involved. These event is completely free of charge and are open to anyone with aspirations to build their own home.”
Anyone wanting more details about the seminar can email selfbuild@leeds.gov.uk.
