Care home welcomes new manager ahead of investment
A Hessle care home has appointed a new manager ahead of significant investment.
Anita Gregory has been promoted to manager of The Hollies after a six year career with not-for-profit organisation Hica Group, and over 15 years in the care sector.
Anita pledged to join the care sector while caring for her mother, who in 2000 became ill with emphysema and passed away in 2014.
Anita, 43, a married mother of four sons, said: “I had a number of jobs before becoming a carer, but when my mother became ill I really understood the importance and impact carers have. I was just glad my mum had the chance to see me start my career, she was proud of what I had achieved.
“I really enjoy working for Hica as we are always encouraged to organise fundraising events and activities, which really bring everyone together. There is also a great sense of pride and achievement when we have completed a fundraiser and can purchase something extra for the residents, or fund a trip they would like to go on.
“I am looking forward to developing my own management style and consistently maintaining a high level of support for staff, residents and their families. There are always opportunities to develop wellbeing, activities and community engagement and I plan to concentrate on these key areas to ensure residents wellbeing and health.”
The Hollies is currently home to 42 residents, and has 52 staff members including carers, senior carers, activity coordinators, domestic staff, deputy management, unit management and kitchen staff.
The home is now set to undergo major refurbishment, including redecoration, new furnishings and new landscaping to ensure wheelchair users are able to easily access the gardens.
Penni Brown, chief executive at Hica Group said: “Anita has been a valued member of staff for some time now, and we are delighted that she is now a manager at The Hollies. She has great relationships with the staff and residents and is a trusted member of the team, so it was only natural for her to progress to manager.
“This is an exciting time for The Hollies as it has gained a fantastic new manager and it is now set to undergo a big refurbishment.”
The Hica Group is a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 19 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a home care service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
