Student’s problems generated by current academic structure

Education is an important and basic need of an individual to succeed in life with light of knowledge and understanding. The academic structures have been modifying from time to time in order to keep the educational standards compatible with the changing times. In this race of modernization, we’ve forgotten about the basic purpose of education and restricted it to some higher standard books and courses. Due to this change, the current academic structure is causing severe problems for students, as highlighted below:

1.Higher financial standards:

The biggest problem faced by not only students but also their parents is that current academic structure has raised the financial standards of education. In addition to annual dues, the books, notes, uniform and other educational expenses make one handsome annual amount per child, which is not possible to afford by a middle class family. Such higher financial expenses have made education out of many children’s reach.

2.Reduced physical activities:

As current academic structure involves more courses and continuous annual assessments, students face the problem of reduced physical activities. They fail to manage time for recreational activities because passing the exams with good grades, becomes their top most priority. Even though physical activities act as mind refreshing exercises, but due to more burdens of studies, students become less active physically.

3.Less understanding, more cramming:

The current academic structure promotes good grades and never consider students’ understanding towards their studies important. This trend is basically causing a huge problem for students, which will ultimately affecttheir whole personality. The basic purpose of education is to understand the depths of things in order to have sufficient knowledge about it. But now a days, the teachers and instructors only focus on good grades, which drive students towards cramming instead of learning.

4.Increased diverse courses:

The current academic structure involves a range of diverse courses including compulsory plus elective courses. This diversity acts as a problem for student in the form of confusion and extreme stress. The students become unable to focus on one path because diversity in courses divides their concentration level which results in higher confusion and increased burden.

5.Insufficient guidance by teachers:

This is the age of fast living due to busy lives and tight schedules. Our current academic structure also promotes this lifestyle; therefore, you can observe that a teacher teaches a classroom of 30 plus students for less than one hour. Now, the question is that how come more than 30 students understand everything the teacher told in one hour? Well, it is much obvious that every student has different understanding level and many of them leave the classroom without understanding a single word. Here, students face the problem of insufficient guidance by their teachers because of short time and large number of students. In many educational matters, students require direct assistance but due to current academic structure of big classrooms and fixed timings, they don’t get that guidance.

In short, current academic structure might seems impressively modernized but generates a lot of problems for students which need to be addressed.
