What are the 9 Types of Intelligence?
Abstract: Intelligence is not limited to solving tricky math sums and becoming leaders. From music and nature to body and language, there are many kinds of intelligence.
Being intelligent does not necessarily mean that you have to be a math whiz. Some people are good in solving technical word problems within minutes while others are smart enough in developing their social circle. The multiple intelligences theory provides different kinds of intelligence and here they are:
1. Bodily-Kinesthetic “Body- Smart“ Intelligence
Bodily kinesthetic intelligence enables us to handle objects by using different physical skills. By collective efforts of mind and body, this intelligence involves performing skills with perfect timing. Professional dancers and athletes are usually gifted with this type of intelligence.
2. Music Smart Intelligence
People having the ability to discriminate between tone, pitch and timbre are named as “musical smart”. Many young adults make their career in music by becoming composers, vocalists, musicians, and so on. It is believed that there is some connection between musical intelligence and mathematical intelligence. Thus, people who are good in sound and tones usually perform well in math works.
3. Logical Intelligence – Reasoning and Number Smart
This intelligence enables people to become good detectives, scientists and mathematicians. It is an ability to provide reasoning and perform logical calculations. People with such type of intelligence mostly are found interested in strategy games, Mathematics and experimentations. BY giving deductive and inductive thinking patterns, it develops our sequential reasoning.
4. Naturalist “Nature Smart“ Intelligence
Naturalistic intelligence makes people sensitive to the natural world. It enables them to distinguish between living things and nature.
5. Interpersonal “People Smart“ Intelligence
It is an ability to effectively communicate with people and understanding their moods. Verbal as well as non-verbal communication skills are involved in it. People having this intelligence usually have a big social circle and they are leaders in their groups. Young adults with interpersonal intelligence should become public speakers, politicians, actors, and so on. This intelligence enables us to make a number of friends resulting in great popularity among our circle.
6.Existential “Reasons of life“ Intelligence
Existential intelligence is an ability to provide reasoning to questions about human existence and meaning of life. A person having this type of intelligence can answer things like why human beings are created and why do they die.
7. Word Smart Intelligence
This type of intelligence enables us to express feeling and emotions by using suitable words. People having linguistic intelligence can easily explain meanings of complex words with simplicity. Poets, writers, story tellers, public speakers, and many others are gifted with linguistic intelligence. This human competence also lets us to express and explain our language to others.
8. Self-Smart Intelligence
Being aware of one’s own feeling and having the ability to understand them is termed as intra-personal intelligence. People having this intelligence can well understand different human behaviors. Such people are sometimes shy but are self-motivated. Intra- personal intelligence in commonly seen in psychologists and philosophers.
9. Spatial “Picture Smart“ Intelligence
This type of intelligence is related to three dimensional thinking. Related to artistic skills and graphic designing, spatial intelligence gives us good mental imagery. It is usually exhibited in painters, pilots, architects, etc. Youngsters who love to draw and daydream usually have spatial intelligence.
