Yorkshire power engineers chosen for Hallburn Wind Farm scheme
The Hallburn Wind Farm project in Cumbria has taken a step closer to completion with the appointment of West Yorkshire power engineering firm Smith Brothers.
The Elland-based company was awarded the design and build contract for the wind farm, which is being developed in Carlisle by REG Power Management.
The renewables firm is currently constructing the six-turbine wind farm on the former RAF Longtown base.
Smith Brothers, now the project’s Independent Connections Provider (ICP), will be responsible for the diversion and underground cabling of 1.5km of overhead lines that run across the site.
Smith Brothers will also fit out the site’s adoptable ENW sub-station and supply the switchboard and control equipment.
Smith Brothers director John Smith said: “Wind power has an increasingly important role to play in the UK’s energy agenda, and the demand for our services in this sector shows just how progressive the renewables industry has become.
“This is the fourth contract we’ve delivered for REG in the past 12 months, and we’re excited to be able to help energise this 12MW site.”
Hallburn Wind Farm is expected to be exporting to the Electricity North West network by the end of 2017.
