CoolKit leads school to victory in manufacturing competition

A Burnley company has helped lead a local school to victory in a regional manufacturing competition.

CoolKit, a refrigerated van conversion specialist, is delighted that Tauheedul Islam Girls School in Blackburn, won the title of North West Champion in the Make It In Manufacturing competition.

The girl’s school was crowned North West champion in the event, hosted by the Manufacturing Institute, after going head-to-head with over 80 other budding manufacturers from across the region to battle for the coveted title.

During the final, held at Manchester United Football Stadium, each group had to set up their own mini-manufacturing businesses, including design, cost and market a new product. CoolKit were one of the sponsors of the event.

After a tough final, Tauheedul were crowned the Champions, and St Thomas More RC High School in Cheshire the runners up.

Loredana Emmerson, Marketing Manager at CoolKit, said: “As a growing manufacturing business in Lancashire, we are delighted to have the opportunity to be part of such an innovative programme for young people across the North West.

“We are passionate about helping to inspire the next generation of manufacturers and broadcast the message that this is an exciting and vibrant industry to be part of.”

Other participating schools included Beamont Collegiate Academy in Cheshire, Broadgreen International School in Merseyside, Manchester Academy in Manchester, St George’s School in Lancashire, St Michaels’ C of E School in Cheshire, West Lakes Academy in Cumbria, Whalley Range 11-18 High School in Manchester, and Whitehaven Academy in Cumbria.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Manufacturing and engineering are crucial to our economy and it’s essential that we attract the brightest young people to work in the sector.

“By connecting young people to manufacturers through practical hands-on events, the ‘Make It’ campaign is a really effective way of inspiring a future generation of young talent. Working with companies like CoolKit really helps to showcase the variety of opportunities available to students across Lancashire.”
