Hollywood Bowl signs up for intu Watford as part of £180m extension

Tenpin bowling chain Hollywood Bowl is to open a new centre at intu Watford as the shopping centre operator embarks on a major extension project at the venue.

Hollywood Bowl has agreed to take 23,626 sq ft at the centre, making it the third such agreement the brand has struck with intu following similar bowling alleys at intu Lakeside in Essex and its Derby shopping centre. It currently operates 54 centres across the UK.

It now means that the operator’s 400,000 sq ft extension at the shopping centre is 66% let ahead of its opening in 2018 with the bowling centre joining Debenhams, Cineworld, Thaikun and Yo! Sushi in taking units at the extended centre.

Welcoming the new tenant, Rebecca Ryman, regional director at intu, said: “Our £180 million investment in Watford is really paying off with Hollywood Bowl the latest exciting brand to select intu Watford as the right location to attract affluent customers throughout the day and evening.

“The fantastic mix of retail and leisure brands joining intu Watford’s extension will help to drive what is already a prosperous local economy thanks to the growing number of people set to visit this sought-after destination from further and for longer.”

Laurence Keen, CFO of Hollywood Bowl Group, added “We are really looking forward to working with intu on the launch of a brand new state-of-the-art entertainment venue at the extended intu Watford.

“Alongside this, intu Derby and intu Lakeside, we continue to find great opportunities to expand our family offering to new audiences.”
