Brittany Ferries selects The Lakes Distillery for British Isle-blended whisky

The Lakes Distillery has signed an agreement with Brittany Ferries to add The ONE whisky to the shipping firm’s retail offer.

From this month the Cumbrian distiller, which has an office in Newcastle, will see its British Isle-blended whisky brand set sail aboard all nine of Brittany Ferries’ routes.

The Lakes Distillery creates its drinks at a restored 19th-century Victorian model farm near Lake Bassenthwaite.

The firm’s partnership with Brittany Ferries will allow passengers to sample and buy 70cl bottles of The ONE.

Nigel Mills, chairman at The Lakes Distillery, said: “As a leader of the growing English Whisky industry we are in a prime position to export our products.

“To date we have successfully launched our British blended whisky, The One, to Taiwan, one of the world’s largest consumers of whisky.”

He added: “This is an important milestone on our journey as we start to leave a significant footprint on the world spirits market.”

The ONE will now be available on ferries from Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth and elsewhere, to European destinations such as Roscoff, Cherbourg, Caen, Santander, Saint-Malo and Cork.

Brittany Ferries’ purchasing and product manager, Beatrice Esterle, said: “We are proud to add The ONE to the wide range of whiskies we offer in our shops.

“Our passengers will have the opportunity to discover The ONE through tastings organised by our valued sales consultants –many of them being real experts in whiskies.”
