Debt recovery seminar provides valuable advice

Specialist debt recovery lawyers from Taunton firm Clarke Willmott LLP led a special seminar aimed at helping Somerset finance managers improve cash flow and minimise debt.

Attended by members of the Somerset business community, the successful seminar covered credit control and debt recovery processes with a specific focus on simple steps to protect businesses from bad debts and practical tips to make credit control more efficient and effective.

The event was organised by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and law firm Clarke Willmott and was attended by finance directors, financial controllers, credit controllers and others working in the finance or credit control functions of commercial businesses.

Attending the event was Matt Donnelly of recycling and waste management company, Viridor. He said: “The seminar was invaluable and really explained how the debt recovery process works and the legal options available to businesses like ours. It was interesting to hear about some upcoming changes to the law and the advice will help shape the action our business takes in terms of credit control from now on.”

Also in attendance was Jason Bevan, an insolvency supervisor at Milsted Langdon LLP. He said: “The seminar was great and very well organised by the debt recovery team at Clarke Willmott. Very often businesses don’t understand the most time and cost effective ways to recover debts and deal with late payments.”

Speaking at the seminar was Phil Roberts a chartered legal executive and senior associate at Clarke Willmott. Phil said: “The event was a huge success and we’re pleased so many local business people were able to attend and gain some valuable understanding of debt recovery.

“The feedback has been fantastic and we are hoping to hold further sessions for others who may be interested in this topic.”
