German steel giant visits Middlesbrough with a look to future links
Industrial research company The Materials Processing Institute is pushing ahead with plans to develop future global links with Middlesbrough, and the North East, after hosting one of Europe’s largest steel producers.
Professor Hans Ferkel, Dr Jens-Ulrik Becker and Dr Stefan Petry from German steel giant thyssenkrupp visited the Institute’s ’Boro campus for a tour of its facilities, as well as to discuss potential collaborative opportunities.
The visit, which was led by MPI CEO Chris McDonald, included tours of the Institute’s specialist metals research laboratories and pilot plant facilities.
The thyssenkrupp group currently employs in excess of 150,000 employees and operates throughout 80 countries.
Chris McDonald, CEO of the Materials Processing Institute, said: “We have enjoyed longstanding working relationships with many of the world’s leading steel producers, and this latest visit highlights our intentions to engage with and support industry leaders with our expertise.
