DTM Legal pledges support for Alder Hey
North West law firm DTM Legal has chosen Alder Hey Children’s Charity as its charity of the year for 2017 in recognition of the life-saving work that is carried out there.
Alder Hey has touched the lives of many people throughout the company including Jim Morris, a partner at DTM Legal. Jim’s son, James, was treated at Alder Hey for pneumonia and thoracic empyema, a life-threatening condition which infected his lung membranes leading to the partial collapse of his lungs. The condition is very rare in young children but the clinicians at Alder Hey were able to diagnose James swiftly.
Jim said: “I can’t commend the exceptional work that goes on at Alder Hey enough. Without the incredible staff at the hospital, James might not be alive today.
“James was taken to Alder Hey when doctors at another hospital didn’t have the expertise to treat him. It was terrifying to be in that situation as a parent. At one point James was hooked up to eight cannulas and could hardly move.
“Despite everything, it was hugely reassuring to know that he was in the safe hands of the staff at Alder Hey.
“James is now a healthy 11-year-old who loves playing football and rugby with his friends. We know things could have been very different if it wasn’t for the pioneering research and incredible patient care that Alder Hey provides.
“The hospital has touched the lives of a number of partners and staff at DTM. We are delighted to pledge support for Alder Hey Children’s Charity and give something back to the hospital.”
Every penny raised by DTM Legal will help Alder Hey to support children around the world through vital research and innovation.
Built alongside Alder Hey’s brand new state-of-the-art hospital, the ‘Institute in the Park’ has research, education and treatment facilities that no other UK or European children’s hospital can offer.
The facility will position Alder Hey as an international leader in the development of safer and more effective medicines for children and young people. It will enable Alder Hey to become an international hub for healthcare innovation, developing new ground-breaking products, drugs and inventions to transform the lives of children.
Allan Eves from Alder Hey Children’s Charity said: “We are really grateful to DTM Legal and all their staff for their support. Donations towards our new ‘Institute in the Park’ are allowing Alder Hey to develop better medicines and treatments and significantly contribute to the future health and wellbeing of children right across the globe.
“On behalf of Alder Hey Children’s Charity I would like to say thank you to everyone at DTM Legal. With their help, we can build a better future for children and young people everywhere.”
Staff and partners at DTM Legal have already signed up to a host of fundraising activities for Alder Hey Children’s charity including 10k races, cycling challenges and an abseiling event. The firm’s offices in Liverpool and Chester will also host events throughout the year to raise money for the charity including, fancy dress days and bake off challenges.
