Team GB Butchery squad captain launches artisan shop at Blackburn Market
A passionate butcher and member of the Team GB Butchery squad has set up shop in Blackburn.
Tom Wood, the man behind Tom Wood Artisan Butchers, is looking to establish himself at Blackburn Market after battling it out internationally in the World Butchery Challenge for the last two years in a row.
Having been named Team Captain in the 2018 World Butchery Challenge, Tom is now looking to hone his skills further by joining Blackburn’s thriving foodie scene.
Tom, whose personal motto is “Passionate about meat and what you eat”, said his mission to be the best in his field has been a personal journey.
He grew up on his family’s farm in Dutton, Cheshire, where he worked with his father and ended up hooked on the trade.
Now, when not working, competing or networking, he spends his time teaching his three daughters about butchery, which includes encouraging them to help out on the farm, see livestock born and watch their dad as he plies his trade.
A holder of the Gold Standard for Butchery awarded by national body Eblex, Tom said social media now forms a “vital” part of his everyday business.
He uses his Facebook page to express his views on butchery and enable followers to see the trade through the eyes of a professional.
