X-ray technology developer to expand into international market

Sedgefield-based IBEX Innovations is to showcase its expertise overseas following support from the Department for International Trade North East ERDF programme.

Following the completion of the programme ‘Introduction to Export’ the X-ray technology developer attended the European Congress of Radiology in Vienna, a global medical imaging event, to develop new relationships with potential customers and suppliers in the USA, Japan and Europe.

IBEX plans to expand and showcase the use of its technology and products to potential clients in other sectors. By widening its international reach, IBEX hopes to secure £150k of additional export turnover and create four new jobs in the next 12 months.

Founded by Dr Gary Gibson in 2010, IBEX began developing x-ray imaging technology for the industrial sector and has since moved into other markets such as medical, food inspection and security. Originally a team of two, the company currently employs a team of 17 skilled scientists, engineers and business professionals.

Kurt Scott, Grants and Project Delivery Manager at IBEX, said: “The conference was a resounding success. We had really positive responses from companies and clinicians interested in our technology.

“We were aware that the medical market needed to be addressed. 80% of the X-ray imaging market is taken up by the medical sector and we have spent three years translating our technology to suit medical needs.”

“Thanks to the Department for International Trade funding, we were able to attend the European Congress of Radiology to exhibit and present the technology in scientific sessions. Attending the conference was a great way for us to spread the word about what we do.”
