Huddersfield's Pharma Biotech secures £5m export deal in Denmark

Pharma Biotech (PBSC), the Huddersfield-based supplier of components for clean controlled environments, has secured a £5m contract exporting to Denmark.

PBSC was able to win the contract after receiving trade finance support from the UK’s export credit agency, UK Export Finance (UKEF), and NatWest.

The contract, which will last for two years, will see PBSC supply and install specialist containment equipment for the Technical University of Denmark.

To fulfil the contract, PBSC required additional finance to provide contract bonds, issued by a bank.

PBSC’S bank, NatWest, was able to provide the required finance, while a guarantee from UKEF meant that the company did not need to provide a deposit to secure the bonds. The support from NatWest and UKEF allowed PBSC to secure this revenue stream at the same time as maintaining its ability to grow its business activities.

PBSC’s customer base is already spread across six continents and includes countries such as Canada, China, Mexico, Singapore, India and Italy.

This new contract represents an opportunity for the company to expand into a new market, as well as boost the company’s revenue over the next two years.

Jamie Davis, sales and commercial director for PBSC, said: “The contract with the Technical University of Denmark was a fantastic opportunity for the company which we might have had to walk away from without the support that Natwest and UKEF gave us.

“Thanks to them, we could take full advantage of this opportunity to grow our exporting business and establish this new relationship.”

Paul Wright, export finance manager for Yorkshire and Humber at UKEF, commented: “UKEF is here to help businesses of all sizes and in all sectors.

“This case shows how UKEF’s innovative and flexible approach to collaborating with private sector finance really works to offer UK exporters the support they need to succeed abroad.”

David Hodgson, senior relationship manager at NatWest, added: “NatWest is pleased to have supported PBSC by working with UKEF. This really is a great example of how we find solutions to meet the needs of our customers.

“We hope to see more successes like this in future, and look forward to working with both PBSC and UKEF again.”
