Wolstenholme Sq regeneration set for £36m extension following Liverpool charity HQ acquisition
The Wolstenholme Square regeneration in the centre of Liverpool is to be extended by 160,000 sq ft following an agreement to acquire a neighbouring property.
The developer behind the multi-million pound project, Merseyside-based Elliot Group, signed a contract to buy the headquarters of PSS, the Liverpool social care charity that created Age Concern, Legal Aid and Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
The deal will pave the way for a £36m extension to the mixed-use scheme, which is now rapidly taking shape.
Elliot Group boss Elliot Lawless said: “PSS has been trail-blazing for almost a century and the receipt from our acquisition will enable them to continue providing outstanding care to the people of Liverpool, whilst allowing them to house their team in modern, fit-for-purpose offices.
“The deal allows us to broaden the range of homes within the development and bring additional footfall to the independent cafes and restaurants that will surround the square when it is completed.”
He added: “Our new building will provide additional levels of luxury and specification and we’ll be revealing more in due course.”
A planning application is due for submission shortly, with early proposals including the creation of 205 apartments, a residents’ spa and several terraces.
The building will also feature two ground-floor commercial units to be let to independent local operators, in line with the wider Wolstenholme Square lettings strategy.

Elliot Group is currently building 447 studio and one-bedroom apartments at the development, 90% of which are now pre-sold.
The regenerated Wolstenholme Square will have an enhanced square a landscaped passage connecting to Seel Street that will be lined with restaurants, cafes and workspace.
The £40m scheme is designed by the Liverpool studio of architecture practice Falconer Chester Hall.
