Red House School pupils run for their money in charity fundraiser

Pupils at Norton-based Red House School took part in a sponsored ‘Jogathon’ to raise vital money for local charity, Daisy Chain.

The event, which is into its 6th year, saw children aged 3-8, run, jog or walk as many laps as they could around the school field.

Having spent several weeks eagerly awaiting the event and collecting sponsors, the 30 minute-event involved over 120 pupils who sported yellow and white clothing, to represent their chosen charity.

Recognised as one of the region’s highest performing independent schools, Red House believes in providing a holistic education and encourages all pupils to participate in extra-curricular activities.

For headmaster, Ken James, the Jogathon highlights this ethos, as it aims to motivate children to be active, while encouraging consideration for the community through charity fundraising.

He said: “Sport is a very important aspect of life at Red House, as it is highly beneficial to the physical and emotional well-being of all the pupils.

“We believe the Jogathon provides a very positive experience, while promoting exercise as being fun. For some pupils, it is the first time they have taken part in such a big event, so it also helps to build their confidence at a very early age, another thing we encourage at Red House.

“In terms of the chosen charity, The Pupil Council always likes to choose a local charity. Daisy Chain is a haven for families affected by autism based in Norton. We’ve supported them in the past and are thrilled our Nursery & Infant Pupil Council chose to support such a worthy cause again.”

As with past Jogathons, the event was well supported by parents and family members, who came along to cheer the children on from the side lines.
