Progressive Employers Group is launched

Business leaders are joining forces to strengthen the employment scene in the West Midlands.

The Progressive Employers Group has been launched to enable investment-minded employers to share best practice and make a significant contribution to strengthening Birmingham’s employment market.

The group has been instigated by people management and recruitment specialists Katie Bard and the launch attracted businesses from across the region.

John Mortimer, CEO and co-founder of the Angela Mortimer, which includes Birmingham-based Katie Bard, said: “The Progressive Employers Group is a community of like-minded employers who are coming together to share methods of best practice to create a fantastic employment ecosystem in Birmingham and the wider region.

“The advantages of having a community of progressive employers is a win for the companies and the city itself.

“With businesses striking a competitive edge through their employment methods there will be a more dynamic market place in the region.

“Birmingham is sitting on the edge of a great opportunity and it is our vision that the Progressive Employers Group will help lead us towards this prospect.”

Organisations already involved in the project include Glide Utilities, Dolphin Index Organisation and Customer Plus, and further companies are set to join following a launch event held at Innovation Birmingham’s iCentrum building.

John added: “Our first meeting reinforced our view that there are some really interesting examples of employers’ investment minded approach to people development.

“There is a big appetite from businesses to not keep recycling the same lines about skills gaps and to work together to make a significant contribution to changing the face of the employment scene across the region.”

The group is set to meet quarterly, with a further event to be held in the autumn which will workshop John Timpson’s upside down management model. For further details about the Progressive Employers Group, contact john.mortimer@angelamortimer.com or go to www.progressive-employers-group.co.uk.
