Jennifer Macdonald, Silver Bullet

Newcastle-based Silver Bullet Marketing has appointed Jennifer Macdonald as Account Executive.

The business, based in the Ouseburn Valley since 1999, provides a range of marketing services from PR to website design.

23-year-old Jen, from Northumberland, has has worked in local PR agencies since graduating from Northumbria with a degree in media, culture and society.

Her experience also includes hospitality in the rural sports sector where she managed hospitality for some of the most prestigious businessmen in the country.

Jen commented: “I was delighted to be offered a job working with some very skilled individuals who have such an impressive track record and loyal client base.

“Each person at Silver Bullet is an integral part of a very closely-knit team and I’m naturally very excited to get involved in a well-established company and hope to bring my own skills to the business, especially in content writing, digital media and client management.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn new marketing skills from a team working within a wide variety of different sectors, ranging from legal services to process engineering.”

Baroness Joyce Quin, Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) has appointed Baroness Joyce Quin as the first Chair of the TWAM Strategic Board.

A major regional museum, art gallery and archives service, TWAM manages a collection of nine museums and galleries across Tyneside, and the Archives for Tyne and Wear.

Quin’s life and career has been rooted in Tyne and Wear. Brought up in Whitley Bay she gained a first class honours in French at Newcastle University, which led to an early academic career working as a French language and Politics lecturer at Durham University.

Joyce served as an MEP for Tyne and Wear for ten-years followed by 18-years as Member of Parliament for Gateshead East. In the House of Commons she held a variety of high profile Government Ministerial positions before entering the House of Lords in 2006.

Joyce said: “I hope to build on TWAM’s great success as being one of the country’s leading cultural organisations, and to strongly support them in their work with schools and young people.

“In my role as Chair of the Strategic Board. I will work with TWAM and their partners on helping to raise the profile of the region, and highlight our unique heritage and cultural assets.

“This will be through major events and initiatives. Next year is the perfect example, as we prepare to host the Great Exhibition of the North, which is a huge opportunity to showcase Newcastle, Tyneside and the North East as a great place in which to live and work.”

Paul Taylor and Ian Swain, MPI

The Materials Processing Institute has appointed Paul Taylor as SME Programme Manager and Ian Swain as Funding Advisor to work alongside Dawn Huntrod, the SME Business Development Manager.

MPI’s SME Technology Centre provides open access technical and commercial support to businesses, from pre-starts to SMEs, across all sectors looking to develop, commercialise and improve technology.

Paul, who is a chartered engineer and possesses vast experience in business development roles within the public and private sectors, will manage the Institute’s involvement in the Innovate Tees Valley programme and the Tees Valley Business Compass Start Up programme and manage the delivery of support to clients.

Ian, a former senior management executive at Trinity Mirror, will help support SMEs and start-ups access finance. Ian is also a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualified accountant with more than 10 years’ experience, who has previously worked in roles to support SMEs with their business strategies and planning.

Paul Taylor said: “There is a significant amount of support available to Tees Valley businesses and our aim is to use that resource to help enterprises maximise their growth.

“I am delighted to join the Materials Processing Institute, which is a well-respected organisation in the region. It has excellent R&D capabilities and is utilising its experience to support SMEs and start-up businesses within Tees Valley.”

Ian Swain added: “These projects are designed to promote and support the growth of new and innovative businesses in Tees Valley and the Materials Processing Institute is contributing the skills, expertise and knowledge of its long-established R&D team to deliver projects for existing firms and start-ups.

“I am looking forward to joining the Institute and making these projects a success, while proving that the North East remains one of the most innovative regions in the UK.”

Michael Coulthard, Silverstone Building Consultancy

Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy has appointed a new senior chartered building surveyor as it continues to expand.

The niche firm of building surveyors and project managers, which was founded in 2009, has appointed Michael Coulthard to the new role.

Michael, who previously worked at Alaska Developments in London, has joined the firm to assist in all aspects of building consultancy. He brings with him a wealth of experience, with particular expertise in project management across a wide range of sectors including office, retail, leisure and residential.

The 31-year-old, who is originally from the North East and studied Building Surveying at Northumbria University, says he is looking forward to returning to his roots, he commented: “I am really excited to be returning to the North East and taking up a role working for a local independent company.

“I was particularly drawn to Silverstone due to the variety of work and number of high profile projects they are undertaking throughout the region.

“The fact that they are very niche and only offer building surveying and project management makes them quite unique and I look forward to working with them as they continue to expand.”

Graeme Stephenson, 0800 Repair Gas

0800 Repair Gas has appointed Graeme Stephenson as its Partnerships Manager to oversee and drive an energy efficiency project.

Graeme, 55, has previously worked at British Gas and was the Lead Partnership Manager for Warm Up North, a partnership between British Gas and nine local authorities in the North East, that was created to tackle fuel poverty across the region by making homes more affordable for eligible residents.

As part of his role, Graeme will be creating and building on existing relationships with local authorities, social housing providers and organisations within the health sector to support vulnerable people through the delivery of Energy Company Obligation ECO services.

Phil Pallister, Managing Director of 0800 Repair, said: “Fuel poverty can affect many people and sometimes it is a case of residents not knowing the initiatives and support that is available to them, which can vastly reduce their energy consumption and bills in the process.

“We are looking to expand this part of the business and support vulnerable people in the region, and Graeme’s appointment will help strengthen our ties among key stakeholders and organisations across the North East.

“Graeme’s experience and industry knowledge, together with the relationships he has built up over the years, will set him up perfectly for the role and what 0800 Repair Gas is trying to achieve.”
