Hartlepool father and son reunite to launch new business

A well-known father and son team in the North East’s insurance sector has been reunited with the launch of a new business, based in Park Road in Hartlepool, due to an increased demand for local expertise.

Mayfield Insurance Brokers will specialise in insurance provision for high net worth individuals and businesses across the North East

Martin Smith and his father, Philip, have a combined experience of nearly 70 years in the industry, having worked together for a range of commercial clients in various sectors including construction, manufacturing and the legal profession.

Highly-regarded across the region for their roles in the insurance sector, Martin holds the Certificate in Insurance (Cert CII) qualification awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute and Philip is a Chartered Insurance Broker and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

Mayfield is a partner broker of Bluefin Network, part of the Bluefin Group, which is one of the leading insurance brokers in the UK. This partnership enables them to offer clients a range of high-quality products and services while retaining a strong, local presence and intimate knowledge of their clients’ insurance needs.

Philip said: “I was fully-retired from my previous family firm and had resigned my directorship, but just to prove that you’re never too old, I was delighted to come out of retirement and accept my son’s invitation to join his new company. I’m really looking forward to a fresh start and an exciting new challenge.”

Martin, who worked alongside his father for many years, said: “The high level of technical knowledge we provide is something that comes with the decades of experience and reputation that my father and I have built up. Not only did we benefit from the initial premium saving, Martin’s tenacity in reopening a claim which had been badly handled by our previous insurers resulted in a further £9,500 settlement which we were not expecting.”
