Leicester furniture restoration firm expands into Nottingham on its 20th anniversary

A Leicester-based furniture restoration business has expanded its operation into Nottingham on its 20th anniversary, as it looks to capitalise on the increasing demand for its services.

Furniture Medic Leicester owners Dave and Jay Canderton launched the business, based in Aylestone in 1997. Now employing seven staff in its Leicester workshop, the company has expanded into Nottingham to offer a range of domestic and commercial furniture repair as well as restoration following fire and floods. Services include leather and upholstery repairs, french polishing and repairs to modern and antique furniture. The Nottingham team will be headed up by manager, Emma Gilbert and will be based in Long Eaton.

Dave Canderton, director said: “We have a solid business built in Leicestershire and we’re happy with our recent development so we decided to invest in a new area to grow our business further. We know there is demand for our services and we’re looking forward to working across the Nottinghamshire.”

Emma Gilbert, manager for Furniture Medic Nottingham added: “We have always been pro-restore, rather than replace and we’re really proud to have built a team who can tackle a wide range of restoration. Furniture restorers are typically a man-in-a-van offering one specialism but our USP is our one-stop-shop approach to all sorts of restoration, keeping our disruption to customers at a minimum. A major part of our work is helping to repair and restore furniture for restaurants or hotels and we’re excited to get our teeth into the Nottingham marketplace.”

Furniture Medic is a national franchise business operating in over 65 locations across the UK and a further 300 in the US. The company is a franchise of ServiceMaster Franchise Services Group, which is also based in Leicester. With 20 years’ experience in furniture restoration, director Jay Canderton added: “We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved with this business to date. It’s no mean feat to trade as a small business for that length of time and we’ve been involved in some rewarding projects, restoring personal possessions following fires and floods. We plan to build on our experience and continue growing as we launch into Nottingham.”

The company was awarded the Marion E Wade Award of Excellence in 2011, the highest honour for a Furniture Medic franchise in the UK.
