Liverpool Airport achieves busiest month since 2011
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) marked its busiest month since 2011 in August after serving 517k passengers.
The figure, representing a year-on-year uptick of 3%, means that over 70k more passengers have used LJLA so far this year than in 2016.
Total passenger throughput for 2017 to date is close to 3.4 million.
The growth follows the introduction of a host of new routes, among which were Blue Air’s flights to Larnaca in Cyprus, Ryanair’s service connecting Liverpool to Prague and Wizz Air’s Lublin offer.
LJLA said it expects additional new routes to launch later this year, including Milan Malpensa and Venice flights operated by Ryanair and easyJet respectively.
Paul Winfield, the airport’s air service development director, said: “We are delighted to see continued growth at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and continue to work with existing and new operators to explore further opportunities from here.
“The passenger experience remains one of our key focus areas as passengers across the North West can enjoy the ‘Faster, Easier, Friendlier’ environment at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.”
