Theatre Company Go The Extra Mile

A North Tyneside education theatre company has won ‘Small Supplier of the Year’ at a leading water company’s supplier recognition awards.

Whitley Bay based Gibber are thrilled to have picked up the special prize at the Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) 2017 Going the Extra Mile (GEM) awards.

The sixth annual GEM awards ceremony took place at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Durham on Wednesday 13th September. Theatre in Education Specialists Gibber proved they can ‘go the extra mile’ and were commended for supporting Northumbrian Water to achieve their vision of being industry leading.

Gibber Director Vicky Blackburn said “We are honoured to receive the award and are thankful to Northumbrian Water for organising such a fantastic event. It was great to see so many companies achieving excellent things by working together.”

Gibber began working with Northumbrian Water in 2016 to support them in their campaign to educate children, their families and the wider community about water efficiency. They have developed and delivered two innovative Theatre in Education programmes. ‘Super Splash Heroes’ and ‘You’ve Been Flushed’ that use live theatre, filmed scenarios and multimedia to communicate and deliver NWG’s key objectives.

It has been acknowledged that the programmes have effected real change in attitudes and behaviours raising awareness of how we use water, how we waste water and how small changes in our water using behaviour can conserve water, reduce blockages saving energy and money.
