The research looked at reviews of over 700k businesses

Are these four companies the best to work for in the North West?

A new list of the best UK companies to work for features four businesses with operations in the North West.

Leadership and Culture at Work: the CMI/Glassdoor Top 20, published today (October 19) by job site Glassdoor alongside professional management body the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), was compiled to showcase the firms with the best workplace culture and leadership development.

Equal Experts UK Ltd, a software consultancy with offices in London and Manchester, came in third place.

Lookers plc, the Manchester-headquartered car dealership business, ranked seventh, followed closely in ninth place by automotive marketplace Auto Trader Group plc.

At number 18 in the list was Peninsula, a provider of consultancy services covering employment law, HR and health and safety in the workplace.

The ranking was created through an analysis of reviews posted on Glassdoor by the current and former employees of over 700k businesses.

Gateshead-based energy management consultants Northern Gas and Power came in at number one.

The CMI’s head of research and advocacy, Patrick Woodman, said: “The CMI/Glassdoor Top 20 highlights the best companies for corporate culture and leadership in the UK.

“At a time when trust in business is at an all-time low and there are major worries about the UK’s poor productivity, every organisation can learn from these fantastic examples of well-managed businesses.”

He added: “These 20 companies show how quality management and leadership makes a real difference in inspiring and motivating employees.”

Glassdoor’s head of communications for Europe, Joe Wiggins, commented: “Today’s employees and job candidates are more informed than ever before thanks to transparency and more company information available online.

“Organisations that have a strong culture will attract the best people, and in turn this will lead to stronger financial performance. Culture is so important as it is second only to salary in terms of influence on a job candidate’s decision to join an employer.”
