Peel Group acquires 192-acre site in Wigan for seven figures

North West investment giant Peel has snapped up land in Wigan for seven figures.

The Trafford-headquartered company acquired the remaining development land near Gibfield Business Park for £4.1m.

The site’s previous owner, Guernsey-based developer Long Port Group, went into administration at the end of 2016.

Spanning around 192 acres, the area purchased comprises several tracts of land – including an eight-acre fully serviced employment site, 19 acres with potential for short term development and a further 165 acres of agricultural land.

The land is located next to the Gibfield Business Park and new housing at the north end of the Atherleigh Way, which links with the nearby A580 East Lancs Road.

Peel planning director Philip Rothwell said: “This was a strategic acquisition as this site complements our existing land in the area and provides us with the potential to master plan these landholdings, bringing forward new infrastructure and potentially releasing land for complementary development.”

Peel was represented in the transaction by real estate consultants Aherne Property.

Andrew Aherne, director of Aherne Property, commented: “Following significant residential and commercial development in and around Gibfield, Peel took the opportunity to acquire these assets from the administrators of Long Port Group which total circa 192 acres.”
