North West engineers appointed to Leeds’ £40m Emerald Headingley Stadium scheme

Structural engineering firm TRP Consulting is set to work on the £40m redevelopment of Leeds’ Emerald Headingley Stadium.

The company will help the Emerald Headingley design and construction teams as they bring proposals for two new stands at the historic sporting venue to fruition.

TRP Consulting, based in Manchester and Preston, provides civil, structural and environmental engineering consultancy services.

The contract is the latest in a string of sporting projects that included the regeneration of Doncaster Racecourse, a revamp of Preston North End’s historic Deepdale football ground and the creation of training facilities for Arsenal.

Emerald Headingley is the home of rugby league club Leeds Rhinos and The Yorkshire Country Cricket Club. It also hosts Yorkshire Carnegie rugby union games.

Caddick Group is the building firm behind the development, which is designed by DLA Architects.

The plans include a new rugby South Stand with 2,200 seats and a capacity of 7,700, and a replacement for the 90-year-old joint rugby and cricket stand overlooking both sides of the sporting complex.

The new combined stand will boast 4,200 seats for cricket and 3,800 facing the rugby pitch.

Geoff Wilks, director of TRP Consulting, said: “Emerald Headingley is well-known globally as a fantastic venue and this redevelopment will ensure that it continues to be the scene of great sporting dramas in the future.

“We have been appointed to bring all our structural engineering knowledge to what is going to be a complex development and construction challenge.”

He continued: “The redevelopment team can count on our ability and track record of delivering high-quality engineering consultancy services on major construction projects.

“We will be working closely with the architects, designers, construction teams and project managers to turn this impressive vision for a 21st Century sports stadium into reality.”

The Headingley cricket ground has staged international cricket since 1899.
