Future looking bright for builder as it rewards young achievers

A leading South West house builder is cementing its future by recognising the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of its young employees.

Persimmon Homes launched its Young Achievers awards programme to put the spotlight on its apprentices and sales trainees who have gone above and beyond to succeed in their role.

The builder is determined to invest in its young workforce, creating a highly-skilled base that will take the company forward in the future.

Carly Spear, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “It is a very exciting time to be starting your career in the construction industry and the Young Achievers awards programme aims to reward those youngsters who have got off to a flying start.

“This year we are proud that two of our young employees received national recognition.”

Persimmon Homes’ Duncan Davidson Award seeks to recognise young people who have demonstrated the same entrepreneurial flair and spirit that Duncan demonstrated more than 40 years ago, when Persimmon was founded.

This year’s winner Curtis Allison, 18, from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, started his career with the company as an apprentice carpenter, but from an early stage it was clear he was destined for bigger things and started as a trainee site manager.

Now Curtis is part of the management team on one of the region’s busiest sites and is performing excellently in the role of assistant site manager.

He said: ““It is a great honour to be recognised for my efforts in a job that I thoroughly enjoy. I started off my career as an apprentice carpenter but after working on a Persimmon site I knew there was more I could give. I was delighted to be chosen as this year’s winner for the Duncan Davidson award.”

Additionally, young sales advisor, Ellen Owen, was named runner-up for the Sales Trainee of the Year after demonstrating exceptional customer-service and impressive results.

Ellen began as a sales trainee with Persimmon Homes in October 2016 at the age of 21. She had no previous experience within new homes industry and had previously worked in the hair and beauty profession. She has since been promoted to a full-time sales advisor after her drive and enthusiasm impressed.

Carly added: “If you’re looking to start your career – we are currently looking for sales advisors and trainee sales advisors across the South West as we look to keep up with the growing demand for new homes across the region.

“We are always on the lookout for determined and passionate workers. We have so many avenues within the company for people to forge out a career.”

The successful candidates will be based at developments that span across the region, which stretches from Bridgwater to Cheltenham.
