Housing Development Brings Thousands of Jobs to Oxfordshire

Persimmon Homes Wessex is to bring more than 6,000 job opportunities to Oxfordshire with its new housing development Wellington Gate.

The regional office’s plans are to build 2,500 homes at the development, located on Grove airfield, creating an estimated 6,500 jobs during the process.

The airfield site is more than 78 hectares in size, 63 hectares of which will be residential.

The development will include new schools for children at both primary and secondary school age, a community hub, a network of open spaces and play areas linked by safe and convenient pedestrian and cycle routes, shop sites. It will also include around 700 affordable homes.

Jobs to be created include those in construction, supply and supply chain, as well as more than 500 retail jobs and more than 150 education employment opportunities, dependent on final use.

Richard Briggs, managing director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “This is a huge investment in Oxfordshire and one that will have a hugely positive effect on the local economy, as well as much-needed starter and family homes.

“It is our responsibility to aid the infrastructure of the local area and to help with the growth of Oxfordshire and we’ll be putting almost £50 million of Section 106 Agreements into the county, including schools, community spaces and facilities.

“Oxfordshire, like elsewhere in the UK, is experiencing a shortfall in housing and Persimmon Homes Wessex is going to be providing 2,500 properties at this site alone.

“We’re building in a fantastic part of the world and we’re delighted to be here and providing excellent homes to the region.”

Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director, added: “At Wellington Gate we are creating a range of attractive homes to suit a range of buyers. Homes will be provided in a mix of styles for both affordable housing and open market housing. There will be a selection of one to five bedroomed homes to include detached, semi-detached, terraced and apartments.

“With a number of special offers and buying incentives available, we’ll ensure that this development offers perfect homes for local people at the right price.”
