Casper Shipping invests in its employees with We do Health and Safety’s innovative services

A leading Teesside port agency and marine services firm is investing in its employees’ health and safety by expanding a contract with an existing partner.

Casper Shipping, which has been working with Darlington-based We do HR for more than two years, has decided to expand its contract with the family-run group to work with its health and safety division.

We do Health and Safety is part of the ‘We do’ Group, which earlier in the year launched We do Learning and Development following substantial growth in 2016.

We do Health and Safety will provide a range of services to Casper Shipping, including audits, development of a safety management system, access to an online document portal and training programmes.

Michael Shakesheff, Managing Director of Casper Shipping, said: “We want our staff to be healthy and safe at work and in every aspect of their lives and we are not content to simply comply with relevant legislation, it’s crucial we exceed these standards. To achieve this goal, we needed to work with the best health and safety firm, which is why we have decided to partner with We do Health and Safety.

“Over the next few years, Casper Shipping will secure its position as a market leader and expand and grow through the group’s companies: Casper Logistics, Casper Chartering, Casper Customs and Casper Defence.”

One of the key reasons that inspired Casper Shipping to partner with We do Health & Safety was the recruitment of Daniel Wilkinson, a lead auditor and specialist in ISO 9001, which means Casper Shipping is fully supported to achieve its full ISO 9001 accreditation in the near future.

Alasdair Ross, Chief Executive of the ‘We do’ Group said: “Bringing Daniel in to strengthen the health and safety team means we now have the knowledge and skills available to help companies achieve their ISO accreditations.”

The accreditation is awarded by the International Organisation for Standardisation and is the most widely recognised quality management system standard in the world. It demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to supplying a product or service that consistently meets clients’ requirements.

Ex-military man, Daniel, who joined We do Health and Safety as its health, safety, quality and environmental officer 10 months ago, will be working closely with Casper Shipping to enhance its processes.

“My military background has given me the discipline to do everything I say I’m going to do and there are no cutting corners,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Casper Shipping to develop its health and safety systems and help the firm become an industry leader in this area.”
