Technology for disabled people at centre of injury conference...

THE IMPLICATIONS for disabled people of the growth in robotic technology are to be put under the spotlight at a major conference on catastrophic injury.

The annual event, organised by Durham-based EMG Solicitors, brings together a range of experts from a variety of backgrounds under the title ‘Managing and Improving your Catastrophic Injury Caseload.’

And among this year’s speakers at Leeds’ Radisson Blu Hotel on 24 April, is Jon Graham, Clinical Director at PhysioFunction, a company which helps people maximise their independence following life changing events, such as stroke, acquired brain or spinal injury and other neurological conditions.

Mr Graham, who is recognised internationally as an expert, will be sharing with attendees’ information about the use of exoskeletons and the wide ranging implications this advanced technology can have in helping those with a number of medical conditions.

Already being looked at for how they can be used in the military and for people working in the construction industry, exoskeletons – which work through various systems of levers, sensors and batteries – are now being developed for those who have suffered extreme injuries.

Other speakers at the event include Gerard McDermott QC from Outer Temple Chambers who will look at the JR v Sheffield Hospitals Trust case and the “lost years” claims.

Also leading a session is EMG Solicitors founder, Emma Gaudern and her fellow director, Jemma Morland, who will be leading a session titled Approval Of Trusts: Attorneyships and Trusts and Ali McNamara, MD of AJ Case Management who will be talking on choosing the best case manager.

Other speakers include Professor Dominic Regan who will be giving a case law update, clinical psychologist Dr Graeme Flaherty-Jones who will be talking on engaging the unengaged client and costs expert Colin Carr.

“We are delighted to be running our conference again and to have lined up such a knowledgeable and diverse range of speakers,” said Emma Gaudern.

“We have enlisted experts in their field who will be able to share invaluable information on a wide range of subjects, all of which is extremely relevant to anyone working in the area of catastrophic injury.”

The conference has also been accredited by APIL Training, with attendees getting five hours of APIL CPD accreditation.

The conference costs £75 plus VAT. Anyone interested in further information or booking a place can contact events@emgsolicitors.com
