Celebrating the North
CHEFS at a leading North East visitor attraction have created a menu of Tyneside-inspired delicacies in honour of the Museum’s part in Great Exhibition of the North.
As part of the event, from 22 June to 9 September Newcastle’s Great North Museum: Hancock will exhibit attractions such as astronaut Helen Sharman’s space suit and the last piano played by John Lennon.
And a special treat is in store for corporate visitors to the museum, who can not only enjoy a privileged, after-hours viewing of the exhibition and a talk by a curator, but also sample some traditional North East cuisine.
The museum’s catering and events partner, Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, has created two corporate packages for businesses and event organisers keen to give their colleagues, clients or guests an evening to remember.
The most formal is a three-course meal with starters such as poached salmon with sweet mustard and dill and ham hock or vegetable terrine.
Main courses of feather blade of beef with Newcastle Brown Ale demi glaze, steamed roast breast of chicken with a white wine and pink peppercorn sauce or leek and Swaledale cheese tart, will be followed by either lemon meringue tart with praline cream or raspberry and caramelised walnut Eton Mess.
The second package is a drinks reception with canapés, which have been created to showcase local ingredients and reflect the region’s culinary history.
These include slow cooked ham hock and pease pudding on a stottie crostini and minced beef in a sage and suet dumpling, topped with creamy mashed potatoes.
Joanne Everett, sales and events co-ordinator for Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, said interest in corporate hospitality at the Great North Museum: Hancock during the Exhibition has already exceeded expectations.
“This is set to be a major cultural event on a scale rarely seen before in the North East,” she said, “and the Museum will be at the heart of it.
“We’re giving corporate clients and their guests the chance to enjoy superb hospitality in a fascinating setting – along with a private viewing of items which they may never get the chance to see again.”
The packages are available between 24 June and 9 September.
