Argos set to create 150 tech jobs to boost digital business growth

Argos is looking to recruit 150 permanent technology and digital specialists to support its digital business.

The catalogue retailer develops its own technology, rather than buying it in. Among the solutions Argos has developed is the same-day Fast Track delivery and Fast Track store collection at more than 850 stores.

Argos also has dedicated software engineers to work on new projects and future innovations.

The new tech roles range from graduate to principal level and include software development engineers, software engineering managers, machine learning engineers, Big Data engineers and product managers.

The roles will be based at the Argos technology hub in Victoria, London or at its head office in Milton Keynes.

Since Argos opened its technology hub in London in 2014, it has recruited almost 300 tech specialists across its IT, engineering and digital product teams.

John Rogers, CEO at Argos, said: “It’s great to see a British business like Argos leading in tech. Around 60% of our business today starts online and over 70% of those sales are on mobile devices. This investment in our people will ensure we remain at the forefront of retail technology.

“Creating 150 new permanent tech roles demonstrates the importance we place on growing and nurturing our own tech talent, ensuring Argos is a fantastic place to shop for our customers.

“We’re excited by what our teams are achieving so far and we’re looking for more people who not only want to build today’s tech, but also to think big and create new experiences and functionality that our customers don’t even know they want yet.”

Argos.co.uk is the third most visited retail website in the UK and last year, it saw more than 1.1bn visits to its online channels overall.

Around 60% of all Argos’s sales now start online and more than 70% come from mobile devices.
