Taylor&Emmet dishes up another Milestone moment

Sheffield solicitors, Taylor&Emmet LLP, have negotiated a lease on an iconic former cutlery works for the city’s premier restaurant and bar group.

Commercial property specialist, Alastair Reid, helped The Milestone Group secure the Rutland Cutlery Works building in Kelham Island, which it is transforming into a hive of food and drink operators, under one roof.

Due to the popularity of the 14,000 square foot property, Taylor&Emmet had to work quickly to bring the deal to a close, whilst ensuring its client was protected from any onerous liabilities.

Alastair said: “As we all know, Kelham Island has undergone a complete renaissance, due in no small part to the work of The Milestone Group. This latest venture will be an exciting addition to its portfolio, bringing a unique dining experience to the people who live, work and enjoy visiting the area. Fortunately, the landlord was keen to work with our clients, thanks to their reputation and we were able to reach a deal that, hopefully, will benefit all parties.”

The project will be known as Cutlery Works, in recognition of its heritage and is inspired by the hawker markets of South East Asia, plus influences from Lisbon, New York and Barcelona. It will house 14 separate kitchens and three bars, offering a wide range of exotic dishes and is expected to be the largest independent food hall in northern England.

Nina Patel Bigland, co-owner of The Milestone Group, added: “Alastair was recommended to us by a mutual contact and has been fantastic throughout the lease negotiations. His team was very efficient and we had no doubt our best interests were being defended robustly. We would definitely use Taylor&Emmet again.”

Cutlery Works requires some renovation to meet its new remit, but many of the warehouse’s original features are being retained. It is scheduled to open to the public in September. If any food, drink, deli, bakery or coffee traders are interested in becoming part of the project, please email Nina Patel Bigland: nina@the-milestone.co.uk
