Morgan Sindall launches 'Adopt a School' partnership with Twynham Learning
The Mayor of Christchurch, Councillor Nick Geary, has joined teachers and pupils at Twynham Learning, Dorset, to mark the official launch of its partnership with construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall.
Cllr Geary led formalities as representatives from Twynham Learning and Morgan Sindall signed a charter outlining their aims and aspirations for their new partnership, under the Constructing Excellence South West’s ‘Adopt a School’ programme. ‘Adopt a School’ is supported by the Southern Construction Framework and aims to foster collaborative relationships between schools and construction companies.
The partnership will see Morgan Sindall ‘adopt’ Twynham Learning, which comprises a growing trust of 6 local schools including The Grange School and Twynham School. The partnership is part of a drive to raise the profile and perception of the construction industry as a career choice with young people.
Morgan Sindall will engage with pupils at the two schools over the academic year to promote the range of career opportunities available in construction.
The company will work closely with teachers to link in with the school curriculum and will invite pupils to take part in a series of engagement activities including visits to live construction sites.
Jon Daines, Area Director for the South at Morgan Sindall, said: “We’re delighted to have officially launched our partnership with Twynham Learning. The ‘Adopt a School’ programme is an excellent initiative to encourage collaboration between construction companies and schools across the region.
“Morgan Sindall is passionate about supporting the next generation and we’re thrilled to have established our relationship with the academy as we promote the rewarding career opportunities available in the construction industry.”
Jane Asplin-Locke, Headteacher at The Grange School said: “Education is everyone’s business. This is an exciting opportunity for our students which will broaden their horizons and inspire them to follow careers in the construction industry.”
Jy Taylor, Headteacher at Twynham School said: “Twynham Learning is about bringing local people together to improve the life chances of our students. Morgan Sindall understands this and we are excited by the opportunities this will create for our young people.”
Morgan Sindall is currently making good progress on the nearby £5.6 million Twynham Primary School, which is being delivered on behalf of Dorset County Council. Construction work is well underway on the new two-form entry primary school, which will accommodate 150 pupils from Reception through to Year Four.
