Open auditions for Panto Star
Beauty and the Beast, this year’s pantomime at The Customs House in South Shields may be doing brisk business at the box office, with over 50% of seats already snapped up - but there’s one important missing ingredient – Beauty!
Oh Yes she is!
The award-winning pantomime is looking for local talent to fill the role of the feisty bookworm who has the power to turn the Beast into a Prince.
Customs House Executive Director Ray Spencer, who writes, directs and stars in the show said:
“This year we are enjoying record-breaking box office sales, which is very pleasing of course, but we certainly won’t have a show without a truly fabulous Beauty, and that’s why we’ve decided to attract local talent to audition for the role. The Customs House panto has won the North East Theatre Guide’s accolade of being the ‘most entertaining’ in the region for three years in a row, and last year our costume and set designer Paul Shriek won ‘Best Costume’ award at The Great British Panto Awards – so you could say we are on a roll! We’re very much looking forward to holding auditions that will enable us to give home grown talent a chance to shine and be our guest!”
The open audition will take place at The Customs House on Wednesday 4th July between 6- 8 pm, and actors (playing 18-25 years) should bring a CV, Headshot, and prepare two contrasting songs to be performed acapella, as well as one short uplifting poem and a joke!
Ray added:
“Previous open auditions have resulted in us casting actors who have gone on to successful careers in radio, TV and on the West End stage, so we are really looking forward to setting another young person on the road to stardom!”
