Willmott Dixon to help create 200 jobs in Doncaster with new £7.7m retail park

Construction firm Willmott Dixon has landed a contract to deliver a multi-million pound mixed-use scheme in Doncaster.

The deal with Doncaster Council will see the company build the Herten Triangle – a new £7.7m retail park forecast to create over 200 jobs.

The development will feature five restaurants and three drive-through units, with food brands Costa, Taco Bell, TGI Fridays, Dunkin Donuts and Burger King all confirmed.

Doncaster Council said the scheme was originally due to be developed by a private sector developer, but the company was unable to make the project viable and attract the restaurant brands needed.

The council stepped in to bring the project to fruition. Willmott Dixon, which secured the brief through through Scape Group’s Major Works framework, is working alongside architects DLG and project manager Rex Procter & Partners.

Mayor Ros Jones said: “This scheme is great news for Doncaster and really shows that our proactive and forward thinking approach to regeneration and job creation does pay dividends for the borough.

“Since this scheme halted under the private sector developer we have been working hard with the industry to ensure this project is completed.”

She added: “In just over a year we have been able to completely turn this on its head, brought in the national and international providers and ensured this can be developed.”

Willmott Dixon’s managing director for the North, Anthony Dillon, commented: “We are excited about starting work on Herten Triangle.

“Our recent work in Doncaster, which includes the new award winning National College for High Speed Rail and building over 100 new homes, is helping to drive growth in the region and we’ll be looking to further this by ensuring wherever possible that our project spend is with companies based in and around Doncaster.”

Completion of the Herten Triangle is forecast for Spring 2019.
