Summer of the Staycation
Record temperatures and a weak pound mean more people than ever are choosing to forgo the pain of organising a holiday abroad.
New research by the peer-to-peer car sharing platform Drivy UK, finds that only a third (34%) of Brits would prefer to go abroad to holiday this summer, suggesting the weak pound* and incredible summer weather have potential holiday-makers scratching their heads and wondering why they’d bother going abroad at all.
With stunning sights right on our doorstep, UK holiday makers are choosing to take the easy option and stay home in the glorious weather. More than 85% of people claiming to spend just as much time, or even more time, organising holidays than actually going on them, it’s no wonder the ease of a domestic staycation is becoming ever more popular.
The research, commissioned by Europe’s leading car-sharing platform Drivy, found that with Dorset’s sandy beaches, Edinburgh’s Fringe and Yorkshire’s world-famous moors all within touching distance, holiday-makers are choosing the ease of hiring a car for a domestic trip rather than flying abroad.
Olivia Riches, consumer expert at Drivy said: “Drivy is all about ease and convenience, we’ve seen a considerable rise in those using the platform for weekends away over the summer months.
“Having the freedom to go explore the British Isles at your leisure and on your own timetable is not something every city dweller has without platforms like Drivy, we’re helping our customers to unlock the nation’s prime tourist hotspots.”
Drivy cars are available instantly, thanks to Drivy Open, a smart unlocking technology, and a full function booking app - Drivy is the ultimate passport for staying in the UK.
